I believe that the Passat aerial is "active". i.e. it requires a 12v power connection. My new Passat (in 1999) was an import and had no radio fitted. I purchased a radio and fitted it and had rotten reception until I fitted an "in-line" aerial adaptor - picked up 12v from radio connection and reception transformed! Have you disturbed/discarded something to do with this requirement?

    Hi there

I followed this thread as I had bad reception on the non vw radio that had been fitted in my passat (2000 1.9tdi estate) by a previous owner.

I followed 'colesstations' advice about fitting an 'amplified aerial' adaptor which is required by most VWs of this age. It took only 5 minutes to fit and has transformed the reception performance. All you have to do is fit it in line with the aerial plug behind the radio and then there was a lead from my radio that was unused marked pow. ant. which gives it the power. There were also instructions with the lead.

I purchased the lead from Motorworld for £9.99 was made by 'autoleads' part numbers PC5-90 ISO to DIN or PC5-52 ISO to ISO, or PC5-91 DIN to DIN check what type of connections you require. (Also available from Halfords by £12.99) much cheaper on line just type the part number into google!

Hope this helps someone else and thanks colestaions

    Dave

The car is fantastic but poor radio reception.
