I have recently had a tuning box fitted on my 115PD Mk4 Golf by Abbott Racing (near Manningtree Essex) and am very pleased with it. So many people on here have been slating the tuning boxes, saying that a remap is better. I beg to differ!

I feel that pound for pound the tuning box is better, and especially on a budget- I now even have enough money left over to get a nice twin pipe fitted by them!

Just wondered if anybody else out there has tried the Abbott box- they seem to be trying to break into the Diesel market (after doing SAABs and other petrols for ages).

I was very impressed by them, their service and their knowledge. I would happily recommend them to anybody thinking about making the first move towards tuning options.

Any questions or similar experiences or feedback about Abbott Racing let me know!?

i think the problem people have with tuning boxes are the ones on ebay for £15 that only contains a resistor which trickes the ecu into thinkin a sensor is giving a lower reading

most common 1 i have heard is it tricks the car to think its still cold so keeps the choke on

I couldn't agree more- it makes people so apprehensive of the real McCoy, but as with most things, you get what you pay for!

I have had the box since I got my golf back in early February. It was around 449 (399 plus fitting). Abbott claim a 15% increase in torque and therefore power. It is most noticeable from low revs up until bout 3500rpm, but this is great because you just pull off the line so well, and wave goodbye to the Essex boys in their Saxos!

Hope this helps. Any more Q's, let me know!!!

Sounds ok.Once my service is out the way next friday think i may be saving the pennies to invest in one.Least with a tuning box it can be unplugged if bad running is experienced.
Where do you get your VW serviced??

it depends what box you get, the cheapo ones jut trick the fuel temp sender or the coolant sender. you need the proper one thats fits inline with the fuel rail on a PD or inline with the fuel pump on the earlier cars ie the 110/90 bhp ones.

I have a dragon box on my 115 that i got off ebay for £66 inc postage and its made towing better and the peformance it soo good, its nice to have the extra poke for overtaking when on the motorway.

dont knock them till youve tried them.

I have only had my golf since early feb, but Abbott Racing serviced it for me at the same time as I had my box fitted- I have given up on cheap services. The way I see it, the more you put into looking after your car, the more it looks after you in the long run!

Getting some grooved discs and Motorsport pads, and a twin tail pipe off Abbotts in the next week or so- I cannot wait!!!

Sorry to hi jack this thread but.... If tuning box tells the ECU that the fuel is a different temp to what it is wont that just mess up the fueling? Surely the result would be a over rich fuel mixture, unless the throttle is fully open etc? I take it the more expensive ones are more like a 'remap in a box'??? Or have i completely lost the plot here!?!
