Hi Guys - today I was trying to find the airbag ECU - wanted to have a look as I am getting a error relating to a bad ground connection. I removed the gear cover as i was told it was behind. - do i need to remove the radio/aircon etc? HELP please!

Airbag ECU on B5 platforms is behind radio/aircon pannel and you will need to remove the fascia...mind you, all earth points are in the right hand side kick panel and i would start there before tearing the car away ! You will need to reset the airbag light with vag-com or symilar !

I have the vagcom tool - but it does not want to reset the light! - the only error that use to have was

[[[65535 P0603 Control Unit Failure or Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error
or Power Failure to Control Unit or Bad Ground Contacts or No Faults Recorded
    (If MIL Not Illuminated)
65535 No Faults Recorded (If MIL Not Illuminated)
65535 Control Unit Faulty (In Some Systems)]]]

but the airbag light says on....

The aircon control unit has screws behind larger fascia where radio fits, and all center console buttons.
It is a bit odd to remove as it has 2 tabs at top end (1 each side) They are easy to break.
I did not go further than that but saw some more screws behind that.
    Possibly all Torx head.

Hi - I have solved it - got a new air-bag ecu on ebay for a tenner! - (some month ago)
I finally manged to get to the ecu and swaped it over - needed to re-program with vag tool. (read your old settings from your current airbag ecu and apply them to the new)

    Which fault do you have?

Ohh - if you are thinking of replacing the airbag ecu - make sure you get the exact same one - as it otherwise will NOT fit - even the letter after the part number is very important! the conoctors are "coded" so they will only fit the exact same module.

you need a bit more information than that... it could be hundreds of different faults that could set of the airbag light. Whilst it is on none of the airbags, seatbelt tentioners etc will protect you in a crash!

You need to have it read whit a vag-com scanner - which should also be able to reset the light - unless there is something wrong.
It could be just a bad connection under the seat etc.
But you need the fault codes to progress.
