Well its that time again to service my car...

Would anyone like me to do a small writeup about how I`ll be doing it.

I can take photos too if that helps?

    Its a 1999 1.8t sport estate.

    regards

We have a nice write up for a 1.9TDi (here) so a 1.8T would be good too please.

Once you've done it could you post it here and we can move it into the How To section.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

Good man. I've been wanting to know how to service my car for ages. The labour that garages charge must be more than some lawyers!

    Have a good weekend.

Here is how I did a lubrication service on my Passat:
It’s a 1999 1.8 turbo petrol engine, engine code APU.
    It has done 118466 miles.
    Items needed for this service:
    VAG oil filter(larger size) part number V068 115 561 F
VAG sump screw part number 908 132 02
    Hengst air filter
5w40 Fully Synthetic oil to 502 spec.. 4litres

Tools to carry out the service:
    10mm Spanner
    19mm socket and ratchet driver
    Oil filter removal tool
    Large slot screwdriver
    Philips No2 crosshead screwdriver
    Funnel
    Oil drain pan
    Disposable gloves
    Clean rags

First I ran the car upto full operating temperature, this ensured the oil was warm and would flow out easily.
Open the bonnet and remove the air intake plastics. This is push together fit and comes away easily.
The air box is now easy to see so, undo 4 spring clips around the edge of the airbox.
To enable an easier air filter change, remove the solenoid that pushes off a rubber coupling.
Now open the airbox and slide the old air filter out.

Check the underside area of the airbox for leaves etc and clean with a hoover if needed.
Insert a new air filter into the lower part of the airbox, then push the top half on.
Close the 4 spring clips to seal the airbox completely.
Push the solenoid back onto the airbox.
Refit the airbox plastic air intake.
Refit the airbox plastic trim cover
