starting golf tdi

i have a golf 1.9 tdi (90) and a while back i blew the radio fuse, and since replacing it the car has trouble starting. I turn the key and the car will start normally but when i let go the engine instantly stops, so to the start the car i have to turn the key, and once the engine is started i have to keep the key in the starting position and rev the engine to about 2000rpm. Then when i let go of the key the car will stay started, does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? thanks hadley

Could be a faulty ignition switch. Do you feel any crunching when you turn the key in the ignition ? Older audi models were notorious because of that and its often expensive to mend/replace as dealer charges 80 pounds parts + 1.5 hours labour. I had that problem with my old a6 and decided to live with it. In your case may need replacing.

there isnt a cruncking or anything it sounds normal, but i think you may be right about the ignition switch because my cd player will switch on and off if u push the key or move it at all. thanks hadley
