My Mk3 Golf TDI has the standard solid discs up front (which surprises me).

So... given the sportier Golfs were all five stud, is there any recognised upgrade in terms of discs / calipers, you could fit to a four stud Mk3?

You could have the front brake set-up from a corrado vr6(4 stud) or a golf/jeta 4 stud with g60(girling calipers. Failing that, a set of uprated disc and pads will do just fine as the mk3 golf tdi did not came with much equipment as standard + its not a heavy car to start with and you wont see lightning speed out of that engine. Is the 1.9 TDI or just the TD engine fitted ? I think the solid discs were fitted to the 1.9 TD 75 Hp, the rest came with vented/5 stud discs.

    It's the 90bhp TDI (1Z engine).

All Mk3 TDIs came with four stud hubs. As far as I know, it was only the GTi and VR6 that ever came with five stud hubs.

And as for lightening speed... well it's no slouch since it was chipped, and the main thing I've found when doing a few enthusiastic fast twisties is the brakes let everything else down - they fade fairly quickly.

Interesting how the Corrado VR6 only had four stud rims when the Mk3 VR6 had five stud.

I've not had it rolling roaded.

Going by what it now gives a run for its money, I reckon as a benchmark the 0-60 has dropped down to just under 10 seconds.

I've done 4k miles in it with the box fitted, and no problems.

My last TDI had one of these boxes and was just as quick and reliable.

My mate had one with 180k on the clock with the same set up - just as good as both the above.
