    As the title really.

How many of us would swap a comparable TDI 130 Sport for say, an SE 4motion?

Is there an obvious advantage... or disadvantage for that matter?

Biggest advantage of the 4motion is grip, you can put your foot down in first or second with no wheel spin. On wet or icy roads it feels a lot safer.

Sounds like the plus I expected

Does the 4motion handle better in normal or spirited driving in normal conditions?

Hard to say really as I have never driven a non-4wd Passat. When I compared it with the wife's VR6, the main difference was when you tried to use the power in lower gears, the front tyres would be scrabbling away under power expecially when cornering, the passat could accelerate in a corner with no fuss.

Pretty sure that economy will take a hit, but insurance... not sure.

fuel consumption is about 35 to 40 to the gallon general running and 45 on long runs. Handling is superb, most passats have the TORSO system AKA the audi running gear unlike the golf 4motion which is HALDEX and a bit pants.
get it and don't look back, but get manual and splash out on the 2.5 V6 which is much better engine, although fuel consumption drops by about 10 again!

The only thing, they dont make a 2.5 tdi 4 motion passat ! The quattro is only available on the 130 Pd Tdi. Get an audi a4 quattro with the 180 Bhp v6 TDI engine and you will never look back ! Mine still does 600 miles on a tank full on motorways and 35-45 Mpg combined and its chipped as well.

    Nice info gents!

Actually I have been considering an A4 140ps or Passat 170DSG but an A4 quattro would be quite nice :-)

    Hmmm, gonna check Autotrader....
