I dont normally beg for help...but today im begging!!!!

I have looked at a few threads but some people have not replied to questions so there are no answers, hence this thread....

I have an 03 Bora with 57000 on the clock. I have noticed over the past few days that there are two really annoying things:

    1) there is a type of pssst noise from the engine upon acceleration (possibly the turbo?)

    and

    2) There is sometimes a slight "blip" in acceleartion..for instance, driving along at 50mph and not pressing the accelerator pedal down, just resting it on the pedal to maintain speed when the car seems to lose power momentarily.

The car is now not in warranty and the service is not due until next May.

Any help or suggestions/diagnosis would be superb.

    Many thanks in advance.

(Stuart, dont give up on the site....its very very helpful!)

1: Check for boost leaks / split intercooler (uncommon on VWs)
2: The usual answer to this one is 'dodgy' MAF (air flow meter).

Hi, I take it the Bora is TDI (Pumpa Diesel) sounds like it could possibly have a turbo hose split, Try opening the bonnet and get someone to rev it to 3,000 r.p.m. and listen to where the hissing noise is coming from.
As the other guy posted Aii mass units are not great on this model as well.
If the Air mass unit is faulty it is sluggish at motorway speeds and struggles to rev out to max revs. New Air Mass meter is about 80 quid from V.W.
    Hope this helps, Good-luck

I bought one off of someone on there that deals in them all the time last year, for my dads Y reg 90bhp Golf.

It was pictured sitting on a Bosch box.

When it turned up it didn't work properly, and was blatantly a pattern aftermarket unit.

I got a refund, and paid the £80 for an exchange unit from the main dealers that worked spot on from day one.

I'd therefore recommend getting the seller of any such units to put it in writing that they're genuine Bosch items, before bidding / paying, as it's not the first aftermarket one I've seen that's failed out the box.
