I have to do an oil change, does anyone know if there's any problem using other oils other than PD oil.
I thought I'd just use an oil that's disigned for deisel engines, will this be OK?

Yes there is ! PD engines have unit injectors and they operate at verry high pressures: about 2500 psi and they verry demanding on the oil being actuated by the camshaft. DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE BUT PD SPEC OIL. CONTACT YOUR DEALER AS GREAT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE WILL OCCUR IF RUN ON DIFFERENT SPEC OIL. THERE WAS A GUY WHO POSTED ON THE FORUM AND HE USED TO HAVE HIS CAR SERVICED BY A RETIRED MECHANIC THAT NEVER HEARD OF PD OIL. THE OUTCOME WAS: BLOWN ENGINE WITH ONLY 50 K. YOU WONT HAVE MUCH CHANGE OUT OF TWO GRAND IF THE CAMSHAFT LOBES BREAK DUE TO WEAR. GOOD LUCK.

Definitely! The best oil I've found is Millers XFE-PD. Around £25 for 5 litres. My Fabia runs very nicely on it.

Essential any oil for a PD is 505.01 compliant.

are we here to spread another myth about having to use pd-dedicated engine oil ?
Haynes manual states SAE 5W/40 to 20W/50 multigrade engine oil, to API SG/CD, for this particular TDi engine maintenace standard disance/time interval. For Longlife servicing there is another tyoe of oil made by WV.
Castrol website specifies GTD Magnatec 10W-40 or EDGE TURBO DIESEL 5W-40 , no mention of anything specific to PD engine. Surely they can't be wrong.

Try it and see but be prepared for a BIG bill....

PD Engines work at such high pressures that any oil, other than PD oil will dis-integrate/break down in a short period, in turn "BANG" new engine! I know a customer at a place I worked at did it.... now £2000 worse off...

Take note aff what Adams24 has already said.... He is correct

and those who think garages will use most expensive oil for servicing and still making profit.
half of tdi pd cars on our roads should have broken camshats by now if that's the case !

Went to VW dealer this morning asked for 5 ltrs oil they wanted £37 and some change plus VAT
So went to Halfords they have their own oil 5/40 505.07 £31.99 and on the back of the container its said sutable for VW Passat, WHAT THE HELLS GOING ON I want the correct spec oil but I'm dammed if I'm gonna get fleesed.
someone out theree must know where I can get the right oil for the right price, the guy I bought the car from gave me a QUANTUM PD oil container and said always use this otherwise it'll rattle.

Check out Millers website for stockists
    http://www.millersoils.net/index2.html

The last time I bought VW Quantum from the ******* it was about £24. Alternatively check out your local motor factor.
