i have a 1999 2litre turbo diesel estate which seems to be taking in water whenever it rains.

It sems to be collecting in the boot door and then pours out when i open it.
it also collects on the floor causing damp.
Has anyone experienced this and has anyone any suggestions on how to fix it

    many thanks

Do a search, plenty of posts about this. It's usually a blocked bulkhead drain plug underneath the battery. But not always. Try to fix it before the water wrecks your box of electronics under the carpet (passenger footwell).
Other places the water comes in is door seals if they have been removed and not put back properly. Main dealers are good at this......

The door seals are not just clipped into place they are sealed with a rubberised material. If that gets disturbed then the seals will leak. Thanks to a main dealer garage who were investigating the water ingress I had to remove the passenger side completely and reseal using silicone. This was done after i had found (thanks to this forum) the main problem of the drain plugs being blocked. I now have a dry passat
    good luck

sounds a bit complicated and expensive. I would need to test if it is the door seals somehow. it may be the rear window but would the water get to the floor from there i wonder,

There are 4 washer hose connections on my passat which blow off when it freezes. I suspect that it is the washer hose connection in the back door that is causing your problem. I solved all these problems by reconnecting and wrapping insulation around each of the connections.

The other three connections are in the rear n/s pillar, Under the bonnet, at the nozzles and at the pump in the n/s wing, The latter is a real pain as you have to remove the wheel arch liner to get at it,

Had the same problem with my saloon, the water was getting past the upper section of the lid seal and running inside the plastic inner cover. When I opened the boot lid the water ran out on to my tools. I have now stopped it by pulling the seal off the lip and only pressing it halfway down thus increasing the seal pressure on the underside of the lid, I did this a couple of weeks ago and no leaks yet (will have to invest in new seal if it comes back).
Try closing your tailgate with a sheet of paper between the metal and the rubber seal, if you can pull it out easily, there lies you problem!

thanks for both those tips. will check it out tomorrow. My mechanic suggested drilling a couple of hole in the bottom of the door to let the leak out but that seems excessive and probably cause more problems.
the damp on the floor has gone,i think caused by the bulkhead drain being blocked.
the car does smell musty in the morning. It's a shame because it's a great runner and reliable in every other way. i bought it on ebay and i love it.

Is there an easy way of draining the water out of the read passenger floor pan?? I have read that there is a drain valve? Then I need to work out where the water is coming from?
