My son unfortunately borrowed my wifes car a 1.9 TDI VW Polo 2006. The fuel light came on and he put £5 of petrol in error, realised his mistake and added £10 of Diesel on top believing it would be OK (you wouldn't think he was a university student). He drove around 4 miles and it stalled at a junction. realising his error we then towed it to VW. Anyone know if a 1/3 2/3 Petrol/Diesel mix would have done it significant damage. Please reply if you know.

don't worry,it'll be fine.you may even have got away with just "brimming"the tank to further dilute it.

Itl be fine, just fill her up with diesel. I filled my MGB with diesel once, it wasnt happy and stopped, drained it, ran petrol straight through the carbs and away it went.Petrol in diesel is harder to sort aswel as it oils up the spark plugs and residue is hard to burn out of the cylinders.Petrol in diesel isnt that much of an issue, as theres no plugs to oil up, just the heat of the compression,it might run like a bag of nails for a bit but it'l sort itself out no probs

Petrol in diesel isnt that much of an issue
that may have been the case in older diesels but not in modern high pressure diesel systems.

Diesel lubricates the internal parts of high pressure pumps, any contaminant will reduce the lubrication properties and cause potentially high wear rates and rapid failure of internal moving parts.

In the event of misfueling todays diesel engines, don't start the engine, turn on the ignition or even open the drivers door, any of these actions will/may activate a fuel pump and the whole system is primed with contaminated fuel and an expensive repair bill
