    Hi all,

I got delivery of my A6 today in the afternoon
When checking it out last sunday, the salesman said it had bluetooth.

In the arm-rest, there is a cradle thing, rectangle with some gold connection pins so to speak.
The salesman said Audi sell specific cradles for phones here for around £100.

He then showed me the menu on the MMI for the phone... neither one of us could find the Audi system on our phones but said it def had it and he would sort it out.

Well today the delivery guy passed the car to me after driving it down 250 miles from the initial place of purchase.
Checked it out page by page in the manual. Everything added up but the phone.

OK so getting to the point:
In the manual, it apparently would state that it did not have a phone connected and that you would use the middle scroll thing to get down to setting up a phone.

I however get: Your telephone may not be connected or attached properly

Could anyone shed any light on this?

    Thanks

    Hi mate,

I have just purchased an A6 & have got exactly the same problem! Same message YOUR TELEPHONE MAY NOT BE CONNECTED OR ATTACHED PROPERLY! Not very helpful is it?
My car does not have a cradel fitted onder the arm rest either, just two rows of gold connections. Could in be that the cradel that could fit here also plays some part in the bluetooth arangment? Perhaps its this bit that has the transmitter in??? I DO HOPE SOMBODY CAN HELP it's doing my head in!

In a twisted way, I'm almost glad you are having the same problem because it was driving me nuts that the problem was rarely reported on the forums...atleast for our cars!

OK, I've been digging a bit deeper and on another forum, found a guy who deals with a lot of Audi installs (MMI, Nav upgrades etc)

He's very clued up from the 1200 odd posts he has had so I aimed the same question at him.

His response was that the bluetooth module is most likely fried.

    The actual reply is:
Yes your car does have a phone prep, the cradle in teh armrest and the message you get proves you have a phone prep.

However the phone prep could be faulty. I fitted a phone prep to an A6 with a "H" revision module and although I could see the prep with VAG COM and it showed no errors, we could not pair a phone to it.

I replaced the module with a "K" revision and it worked straight away.

One thing I noticed is that with VAG COM I could see all sorts of strange characters for the module details, this is sure sign of a goosed module.

What I will do is phone up Audi tomorrow to see if I can get the car seen to tomorrow. With the easter break, it is near impossible to be booked in but maybe its a quick fix.

I'll keep you posted on my findings either way and again either way, this issue >will< be fixed as mine is under warranty (not sure if yours is) and i've not even had it for 24 hours yet!

Thanks for that. Picked up my A6 just yesterday, it's only 12 months old so will be covered under warrenty. Still so much for there muli point check list! I did ask the sales guy to link up my phone for me & he did try then looked a bit puzzeled & made some excuse about not having done it on a Nokia phone before. Hmmmm.

Still your you are right, I also take some comfort in knowing I am not the only one.

By the way, I take it my thoughts on the missing cradel being somthing to do with the bluetooth thing is not the case?

Good luck I will do the same as soon as they are open & let you know how I get on. If anyone else can help nows the time. Cheers

hi,it may be the case that the telephone ecu is faulty because there is a major problem with the ecu's but before replacing it you should get the software updated in the mmi system first(zug coding) as this is also a problem.Updating the software can unfortunately damage the phone ecu in some cases but if you were going to change it anyway its worth a shot first. Some phones are not compatable with the car telephone, usually newer phones are best.

    ok success!

After driving to Epsom today - 30mile trip but took 2 hours each way! I managed to see the service manager.
Very impressed with Epsom as its a sat, they're open till 1pm but they saw to me (the actual service manager too!) at around 11:30am

ok he sat in the car and straight away found the car on his phone
I tried mine and same thing.

    What have I learnt?

Well in order to pair, you need to follow the following steps:

Ensure you have just got into the car (as opposed to it being on for a while and then switched off without locking/unlocking)

    1. put the key in and turn it one click up (so NOT as far as the engine running but enough to see all the lighting)
    2. Search on your PHONE for the Audi kit (must be done within the first 10mins)
    3. Once found, pair it with 1234 and enjoy.

What I and possible you were doing is either doing it with the engine running or doing it after a run-around. Today I learnt that it can only be paired within the first 10 mins of the key being inserted to point 1. After this, you need to switch off, lock, unlock and re-search for it.
Same thing goes for if you went for a drive...came back, switched off then searched...it will not find the kit because the car has been on for more than 10mins.

I also learnt that it will not find the kit if the engine is physically running.

Try this out for yourself - I know for a fact nothing like this is mentioned in the book because I read it out in front of the service guy (as good as !) so ...

Let me know your findings but for now, I've just spent over an hour talking into the fresh air :-)

Thanks for that I went to Audi at Bedford who also were very good, however after an hour of my car bing in the workskop thay said my car did not have blue tooth fitted. Now I find that very odd! Car cost new in Jan 07 36K+ it's got every toy on it you could wish for inc the voice recognition tel pack everthing! I voiced my displeasure & thay gave my a free cradel for my phone so that shut me up & was happy (ish) Now I am going out into the snow to take your advice. I will let you know how I got on.

Akash - many thanks - I joined this forum last night to find the answer to the very question you asked in regard to my wife's new TT and within 1 min, I found your stream and the answer! Fantastic - I have just paired my phone successfully although it will not show th phone book and says the button (mode) is not in use. I think, having re-read the manual that it might be that the phone book does not transfer in Bluetooth mode, only if you have it connected by the cradle although it does not ACTUALLY say so! Who writes these manuals??? Once again, thanks for a fantastic result.

I know what you mean, I literally studied the manual - almost more than my university dissertation back in the days!

One thing however if I can chase it up with you - what phone do you have (or the one you are pairing to the system?)

I found yesterday that my Nokia N95 has the same issue whereby the contacts do not beam over.

After more reading up, I found something many were using called Nokia N810 contact download application (from Nokia)

This worked for some, failed for others, mine being the latter.

After more reading and help, I found that my MMI was running a fairly old and outdated version. Now usually, this is something that can only be updated from Audi - naturally at an over-rated charge.

I will be trying something on Thursday however and will get back to you with the results... For now, knowing what unit you have might shed some light in the possible solution and whether the software upgrade is your issue too.

You can find the version of your MMI under "version" which I think was in Car>setup. I assume the TT has MMI too?
