    Hi all,

    I've got a 2001 Sharan 1.8t with 126000 km's.

When I turn on the w/sheild wipers, they start only to stop at the point were they should start to return down...

I can then push them back down and up they go but no down again by themselves...

    Any ideas anyone ???

    Thanks in advance.....

Theres is a known problem on the Galaxy/Alhambra/Sharan. Water gets into the wiper motors and linkages causing electrical shorts and seized links

It is mentioned in some detail on the ford galaxy website.

Check out this link, it may be of some use. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...ost&p=82520

    Here's a quick follow-up.
This morning, going to work, it was snowing......

So I spayed the wiper posts with WD-40, in fact I drowned them in the stuff...

Turned the wipers on, they blocked half way.

I helped them a bit, and after a couple back and forth, bingo, they worked by themselves.

So I spayed again just to make sure, they even picked up speed a bit which I find encouraging, and off I went.

They worked fine all the way.

So I guess it was a bit of jamming temporarily solved with a bit of lube.

Will disassemble, clean and lube and hope this will cure the problem.

Thanks again to Emily's dad for the tip !!! Rep points to you !!!

I had the exact same problem, took it all to bits, the joints were seized so badly I had to use a blowlamp but after I cleaned it all up with a wirebrush it was like new, put it all back together the crashed and wrote the car off 10 days later, whilst the crash happened the wipers were on because it was raining, they were still going strong so mine were even crash tested.

Thanks for sharing your story. Sorry about your car, but I'm glad the cleaning up or the mechanism worked fine even after the crash. Shows you did a good job !!!!

I since told a few of my co-workers that have Sharans to check the wipers also and suggested some regular maintenance to prevent seizing-up.
