TEMP GAUGE

I HAVE A 2001 TDI PASSAT WHICH HAS TEMP GAUGE THAT WORKS ONLY WHEN IT WANTS TO,I HAVE CHECKED HEADER TANK AND NO LOSS IS NOTICED ,ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME GARY.

Hi mate. It is your temperature sender at the top of your engine. Generally located on the left hand side. Check the colour as the dealer will ask you if it is blue , green or black. It will most probably be green. Its a five minute job to do. Do it when the engine is cold as you will loose a little bit of coolant. It looks like this.

Hi that link if you follow it is off a usa site and the pics of the CTS is on a 1.8T engine I'm almost sure?, where is the CTS on tdi PD engine? anyone take a pic and post it up please.......the only sensor I could see similar like that on my PD is black and at the back on the right of the rocker cover as you look from the front near the bulkhead, and sits between a metal half inch thick pipe which looks like it could be a fuel pipe to me as I can't see the pipe connect to anything to do with water?
