a4 brake squeal

i have noticed when driving with windows down a constant squeal which disappears once you apply slightt presure to brake pedal .i presume its down to pads which are pretty much as new and are gen vag ones i know there is some special grease you can use to stop the squeal ,any one used any of this and where is best place to put the grease

I think its called copper slip greece or something like that, and you apply a smear of it to the metal back plates of the pads

cheers thats the name i was looking for although surprised that i may need it as reline was done only3k ago by audi brake pads still as good as new

I'm not sure that that is the cause. I replaced my discs and pads with EBC greenstuff. The brakes are better, but, the boogers will squeel once warmed up. I used copper grease on them but I've research it and found that the likely cause is a glazing of the disc. Heat and some heavy braking will remove the glaze. Deposits from the pad stick in the grooves of the disc.

It could be that you need grease. My pads came with a plastic back to avoid squeeling and a shampher to help bedding in.. the boogers still squeel so I assume it's the glazing. It goes away after some heavy braking. My normal route to work is rural roads at 40mph so I tend to be very soft on brakes most of the time.

Try some heavy stops without coming to a complete stop.

I'd heard that about the Greenstuffs from other people - they take quiet a bit of heavy right foot/right foot action to get the results from them. A mate has some on his Elise and once they are warm you need to pick your teeth out of the steering wheel if you even dab the brake pedal so they are good, but they annoy the s**t out of you on everyday driving...

On the pads I got for my S6, they already had a pad on the back to eliminate brake squeal. Isn't this standard on all VAG OEM brake pads now?

Some mechanics just use copper grease!

I had EBC green stuff on my Golf. I got rid of them after a while because the pads contain an element of copper which eventually deposits onto the brake disc, reducing braking performance.
