Strange Noises from TDI

Hello All,

I have recently bought a 2001 1.9 GT TDI 115 6 speed (AJM engine I believe).

I love it! BUT between 1200rpm and 2500rpm it is making a loud whistling noise which increases in pitch as the revs go up. Another way of describing it is like listening to one of those heart jump thingies (defibrilators?) charge up.

The noise stops at 2500 rpm but below that is loud, loud enough to turn peoples heads on the street and loud enough to hear in the car with everything shut. I am sure it didn't do it on the test drive!

Could the Turbo be f###ed? Is this normal? I used to own a BMW 320TD and it didn't make that noise. It is louder when cold. The car accelerates well and the engine otherwise seems fine.



Any ideas, am i just being paranoid?

Not sure about the norm on the 115, but my 150 (And all others) does this. Its quite normal.
