    Good evening to you,

I have a Golf V6 4Motion on a 53 plate. I have been experiencing a flat spot which only seems to be apparent in second gear. The flat spot usually kicks in at around 2500 revs and the power does not return until about 5500.

It has been to the VW garage on three occasions. The first time I was told that an unmetered air flow pipe had worked itself loose - it was reconnected. The flat spot retuned the same week. The second occasion they were unable to find a fault and gave me the car back after a day of ‘examination’. The third occasion they have had my car for a week – and counting – with still no response to the issue. I have been told that it is a serious engine or electrical fault; which hardly gives anything away…

I have been trying to make the flat spot occur as often as I can to try and pin point some sort of pattern but to no avail. It always seems to happen when it has been raining, or is raining. It was particularly bad with the recent fog. The car is tucked up in the garage when it’s not being driven so I know no water is getting in anywhere.

I would be extremely interested in any of your thoughts and comments to what this may be whilst I await the verdict from the VW garage.

    Thanks in advance,

    Barry.

Get the Air Mass Meter replaced if there are no fault codes, we get a lot of 4-M's that do this, including our own. Only use an AMM supplied by a VW dealer, do not buy one anywhere else part number 071 906 461 BX and costing £75.79 exchange including VAT.

Thanks for the quick response. There are no fault codes showing. I have heard back from the garge today and they are saying that it is an electrical fault but they are having difficulting in locating it. It was added that it was something to do with a bad earth connection.... Other people i have spoked to have suggest the AMM as the culprit so does the electrical sound feasable? thanks,

I have had two 4-M's play up like this recently, driving me mad with odd electrical faults, in both cases it turned out to be a faulty alternator.
