Screem:Noticed quite a lot of problems on the forum about engine judder etc but haven’t yet seen anything where this seems to be in connection to the climate control or air con or heater.

I have had a 1.8 1999 Golf GTi Turbo now for about 15 months and every now and again the engine goes mental, the rev counter goes all over the place and the car is impossible to drive. When it last happened a couple of months ago my mechanic changed the air flow/ mass monitor and it has been fine since but it’s just started playing up again. I have a suspicion there’s some connection with the climate control/ air con or heater as it keeps made funny kind of ‘sucking’ or ‘sipping’ noises (difficult to describe) and the climate/ heater control display goes berserk displaying all kinds of gibberish. Also when you switch between Economy and Automatic mode or to Air Circulating the throttle/ accelerator pedal seems to be affected in some way, you feel it on the pedal.

The problem has just started again in the last two days. I turned the heater/ climate control off and the engine problem disappears. This is ok but it’s freezing at the moment.
I have read/ heard about problems with ‘belts’, spark plugs, leads pumps etc but would like to hear from anyone else who has also had this problem. Don’t want to go round replacing everything only to find it’s nothing to do with that.
