Air Con Playing Up?

Kwik-fit don't put tracer dye in one way they save money, they do vacuum the system to boil off any moisture but if there is any you have a leak because thats were it will get in. the vacuum is set and should stay put if not it's drawing in air and you have a leak but this is not an ideal test i've heard as it doesn't do the whole system. So as the guys say find a good indie who will give the right amount of gas/oil/dye after vacuum, and if it goes pear shaped its out with the UV lamp when its dark.

Stu22uk you should have had a printout stating how much was recovered (oil and R134a)and how much was charged after a vac test,the vac test is only rudimentary as its only minus one atmospere as the system works at much higher pressures it can still leak after.If your econ light is out it looks like tere's in suffient r134a in the system,as for taking a few days that bollards!however having said that a aircon system needs heat in the cabin to appear to work properly it does'nt just blow out cold into your face! it extracts heat out of the interior by boiling off the refrigerant in the evapourator,you feel the cool air because of temperature differentials in summer the cabin can reach 40 plus.Its a warm day today so leave the car in the sun then give it a blast.the compressor shaft is usually the culpret for leaks its only slight so just get a decent recharge,I get mine done every 2 years or so its cheaper than renewing the compressor,I dont put leak stops in I think you're just storing up future problems,anyway the upshot is get it back to them.
