Dash mounted CD Changer not working on 2003 Bora

I have owned a 2003 Bora for 2 years now & am very happy with the car. But last week the CD changer (which I use regularly) started coming up with a 'CD ERROR' message & not playing any discs in any of the CD slots. Any ideas? thanks, Lee.

Probably the laser assy.

Cleaning it may cure it (if you're lucky). Fingers crossed it ain't fubar'd.

i had the same problem with my 2001 bora.
can't tell you why it had happened as i don't know,but all i did was sit in the drive and pressed buttons! turned it off/on, cd/ fm--any combination you can think of.
it just started doing what i asked it to do,and hasn't looked back.
just be patient,don't go poking stuff into it,it will just be a bit of dust/fluff,i'm sure,you may want to try running a vacum over it,can't do any damage,though it may not help either!!!
if you loose your temper with it,then walk away,i'm sure it will just start working later on.

i had a similar problem a while back (6 disc changer in top din slot), first it decided it didnt want to play discs (disc error or the likes), shortly after that it started to making a grinding noise (i guess something to do with motor), and then lastly it refused to eject the discs, i managed to coax all the disks out, looked for a replacement part, new they were about £400 at the time so I went and got an after market pioneer head unit & 1din pocket, its not the same blue and doesnt sit flush but at least I can use the ipod so dont need the CDs anymore...might get an ipod adapter for the gamma unit and give the missus the pioneer (she's 'just' got an ipod) but having seen how the factory fit one works on the new audi a3 i'm not convinced!

After various attempts to fix it myself, including using a cleaner/hoover/removing & re-installling it;I ended up taking it to a car stereos are us type place in a not too good part of Manchester (better than taking it to a VW dealer i figured). They fitted a new head unit for £50 - not too bad although it jumps the odd time since I had it fixed. Probably will need a new one soon. Cheers for the advice anyway
