VW will charge about £150 for the key (all in) or you can chance buying the correct key from an auction site for about £30 (be careful and buy one with an identical code and frequency) get it cut from a locksmith or key cutters (cost me £6.50) get it programmed to your central locking (details available on the web) but the hardest part is assigning it to the immobilizer. this can be achieved using a registered version of vag-com but you will need to know your SKC code to be able to do this. your SKC code is unique to your ECU and is basically a pin number that stops theives and people wanting to program keys from being able to do what they want. this number can be found out using a program such as Vagdash or Vagtacho. i am currently at this stage as i am trying to do this meself but i am struggling to find out this SKC code. Later cars (as of 2003/4 i beleive) now need to be taken to a dealership to find out this code.
    hope this helps

The number you'll be looking for should be along the top of the button part of the fob when u 'break' it in half, mines 'HLO 1J0 959 753 AG' ; thats what you're looking for, be really careful with ebay tho, its got to be exactly the right part, I've only got 1 key fob left as well...

where do all these missing vw keys go.
...i wish i knew, mine got lost at a horse show a while back leaving my gf's gear locked in the car, the missing key was the least of my problems!

mines the same model and frequency as robat282's key. the number you need is visible on the key when you split it into two pieces (i think its on the button side) have another look. if your struggling try taking a picture where your looking. the number will be in the same format as robat has stated
