vw golf mark 3 advice

I got remap unit from tunit.com it costs nearly 500 quid but you can install it your self it just plugs inline with the ecu. probably cheaper alternatives out there

Thinking of buying a Golf TDI GT 1997, 3Drs.

Me and my Gf are moving to Greece, so we'd need quite a lot of boot space to store all our things (especially my GF, u know women..)

Hows the Golf in this respect?
And, provided it has been well kept, is it reliable, as engine, mechanic, body etc?
What do you say I should look out for?

Any of the early TDI engines (90 or 110) can be doubled in power, for relatively little money.
