hi i was looking to make my first car purchase in february and i have narrowed it down to golf mark 3 1.6cl or a 1.9tdi

which one do you think is better and which one would be cheaper to run including insurance and maintenance costs?

Get the TDI. The 1.6 isnt as cheap to run as the diesel nor it will be cheaper to insure. Get a mechanic to look at the car so you dont have nasty surprises. Search the threads for what to look when buying a new car and you wont go wrong.

Hi i have a mk3 tdi and cannot fault the mechanics of it at all its given me 3.5 years of trouble free motoring. I am pretty religious about changing the oil every 6 months and this has kept it sweet 55mpg on motorway run 40ish normal driving. Any questions you may have dont hesitate to ask

I have a 110 and yes it can be remapped. acceleration isn't to bad as it has a veriable vane turbo fitted to reduce lag. Change the oil regulary and it should go on for 200k mines coming up to 100k and no probs like i say regular oil change seems to keep it sweet
