Hi folks, i have owned my 2.0 litre sport 8 valve 3A engine audi 80 for 10 years, i bought it on 117K and it had a belt change when i bought it, its now on 187K and on the SAME belt (naughty, naughty!), i am going to replace it soon, question is should i get a genuine belt or a pattern one, if so what make, also what other parts should i replace while i am doing the belt, is it an easy job (have done lots to audis over the years, except change a belt) so i am pretty competent. How long will it take. Thanks.

I think one of the OE suppliers is/was Contitech, I also wouldn't have a problem with using Bosch or Gates brands.
It probably should have had a new tensioner at the 117k belt service, if it didn't it's well overdue now! eccentric bearing roller type, It think they are approx £15-20.
Only pitfalls are the auxilliary shaft sprocket needs to stay in position relative to the cam/crank, if you lose this position, its no big deal, but you will have to adjust the distributor to reset the ignition timing.
The crank pulley splits into two, the vee belt pulley seperates by 4 allen/splined key headed bolts. The 4 holes are not on an even pcd, so it can only go on one way.
It would be easier to do with the radiator/tinware out of the way but may not be necessary on a 4 pot? I'd allow an afternoon, if its less put your feet up!
