Sounds like my door hasn't closed properly at speed

I've got a 95 A4, and at speeds of over 40mph I can hear the outside world whistling by as if the door is partially open. The door closes flush, and the seal is completely intact.

If, while driving, I grab hold of the door frame at the top of the window, near the alarm sensor and and "nip it" to the bodywork the noise stops, leading me to believe the door is possibly a tiny bit out of alignment and should be closing perhaps a couple of millimetres further.

Can anyone help me with this:
a) am I barking up the right tree? and
b) how do I adjust the door itself to try and fix the problem

Slacken the adjuster bolts and reposition the latch striker plate, then retighten.

I often get wind noise from my rear windows, it is inevitably the kids messing with them and they are not quite fully up.

the other way its a door frame as its a part of door and gets bend slightly while you use it daily its normal. As it ''INI'' says you can adjust on the latch but on this way you moving full door so you might go off line in door to door so there is another way to slight move the frame with open window ( in case to not brake the glass itself) its a common problem in audi ... be carefull ...ENJOY ''POWER OF TDI''

I have had to do the bend way. Wind the window down, sick a bit of timber in the door so it wont shut and apply pressure to the top of the door. It may nof feel like its moved, but if you then remove the timber and close it,you will see it will close tighter.

There are bolts that hold the frame to the door hidden by the door card, but as yet i have been unable to adjust these to make any difference hence resorting to "tweeking" it instead.After 3 trips back and forth watching a good body shop trying to adjust my doors ( and not succeeding) after they replaced the door i read that the tweak method is used quite a lot over the pond in the US

Thanks everyone, I tried both methods - bending the door has improved matters somewhat but it's still 1mm too low down so I adjusted the striker, now there's only a .5mm gap in the rubber. Only a road test tomorrow will tell if it's enough...

I had a similar prob with my 2.0E Audi 100 93 drivers side door. I had it off to get minor rust covered and re-painted. When the shop re-fitted it there was a gap at the top. Your man then loosened the door hinge to move the door to close the gap, but ended up mis alighning the loc/catch. After moving it back to the way it was we descovered the top frame round the window can be adjusted to extend or retract it. There are a few nuts inside the door that clamp the frame in place.
I still have to do this, waiting to get a micro switch for the door barrel first and do both at the same time.

Hmm, let us know when it's done and how easy it was to get the door apart and back again. Might be too big a job for little old me!
