    Im debating this purchase myself.

First and foremost obviously the difference in spec is the power/torque

It seems that the 130 is a more reliable engine. I think its due to problems with the bigger turbo on the 150??

Oh not this old sausage again!

Only the diesel 150's were badged as GTI's, not TDI's. Just the 'I' being red (As mine) OR all the badge being chrome!

The 130's were as I understand it all badged TDI's.

Its not what's on the boot that matters though, its what's under the bonnet!

As Ive said before, "Why have cotton when you can have silk!" Get the 150... you will smile every time you take it out!

I also believe the 130 doesnt have the extra vent in the lower front skirt.
150 GTI DIESEL - propper juice!!

I have just been in the same boat myself i had my heart set on buying a 130 but when i went to see a 150 i bought that ,there are a few differences as well as the ones under the bonnet the front bumper is different there are extra vents in it,there are different wheels on a 150 to a130 ,there are three headrests in the back of a 150 not usually in the 130,also there is quite a bit of wooden trim in the 150 all black in the 130,i was also told that the suspension is harder in a 150 aswell. Both cars i tried were 03 black ones and when the cars were alongside each other the 150 looked nicest i dont know if it was down to just the different wheels or what but the 150 deffo looked the better of the two,i think it looks just that bit more sporty.
Then came the test drive first impressions the 130 actually felt a bit more lively than the 150 but wind them both up properly and there is no doubt that the 150 is quicker its a second quicker to 60 and 7 mph faster on top speed you have'to wind the 150 up a bit more than the 130.The 130 just feels like it hits its power range lower in the revs than the 150.The 150 sounded nicer to and there is a noice when you change gear lika a dump valve only very slight though i love it myself and my little boys made up with it too. From what i can gather the 150 is virtually identical to a petrol GTI but in diesel form and thats why VW put a GTI badge on the back and not a TDI one like the 130.It'sreally good on juice too 40's round town for me and 50's on the run.
I'm glad i bought the 150 every time i drive it, it puts a smile on my face.I liked it so much i've gone and bought a BORA TDI Sport for the misses but thats another story

    Thanks for your replies chaps.

Its so hard to choose! I just dont like the wooden trim of the 150's but if its slightly better spec'd then I would consider one. Do any of you know if that trim can be removed and a black one fitted?
