Why is it you fix one problem only to get another, today one of my rear doors now will not open when you pull the handle. Will open from the inside but outside just the handle moves and thats it. Any advice very welcome.
    Many thanks

    Hi
had this problem ,there is a wire leading to the lock mechanism which engages with the handle on the outside. It connects with the serrated edge on the door handle and the the serrated end of the wire.a common problem is the serrated edges become worn and when you pull the handle the wire end that opens the lock slides along the handle ,to aviod replacing either open the handle and locate the end of the wire ,keeping the handle open push the serrated end of the wire in place and glue or fix by epoxy or similar let slip back and leave to set before trying again .its a step for a hint in cold weather to leave the glue or epoxy in same temp as the lock to check when it hardens

    hope this makes sense

    Hi millinb

you wont need to remove the door panel ,pull out the handle as if opening the door and the gap that is now between the door and the handle you should be able to see the end of the wire, with a pair of long nose pliers pull the end of the wire and locate back into the door handle, you will see where it goes when the handle is pulled out ,and fix in place with some resin or glue and gently let handle back into recess ,leave to set 1 hour or 2 dependant on weather.Hopefully this is the problem otherwise the cable is disconnected or broken at the locking mechanism in which case the window regulator will have to be removed which is a much bigger job

Suggest you have some one holding the handle open or you will struggle

    good luck

I realise that this is an old thread but did you have any luck fixing your problem?

My dads rear driverside door has recently started giving him problems. It locks/unlocks fine but can only be opened from the INSIDE. When trying the handle from the outside it does nothing.

Having compared it to my own Passat it appears that there's a small bit of plastic missing from the inside of the handle - see attached picture.

Anyone know how hard it is to change the whole handle (or even just the pictured bit of plastic?)]
