Rear drivers side door wont unlock.

The rear door on my 98 tdi estate wont unlock, any tips on how i can get at the mechanism or what the fault might be.

Open the door fully there is a rubber boot with connectors inside check the connector block hasnt come undone

Problem is i cant get the door open, if i could then id be able to get at the door trim to take it off and look at the mechanism.

I have this same problem intermittently as well. What seems to work is

- with engine running (eg during a journey), lock all doors using the button on the drivers door armrest;
- at end of journey unlock doors using the same button.

Why this works, I've no idea.
