Knocking/creaking noise in second gear accelerating

Can anyone help?

My 2001 MK4 Golf v6 2.8 4motion has just developed a knocking/creaking noise in second gear.

It only happens in second gear, when accelerating from a low speed and lasts for just a couple of seconds.

I've just had an anti roll bar, bushes and brackets replaced - but this hasn't cured the problem.

Someone has suggested that it could be a chipped tooth on the gearbox - but I struggle to agree.

Any ideas?

Only when accelarating from very low speed/revs, no jolt at all - just a very anoying noise.

That is very difficult to diagnose without hearing it. Did you have new anti roll bar to strut link rods fitted as well?

I have what sounds like a very similar problem, does yours seem to be a bit worse when the engine is cold and sound like its coming from the back of the engine bay? I'd love to know what it is!!

Mine has nothing to do with whether the engine is cold or hot.

I don't know to tell you the truth. I was told that they would replace the anti roll bar, bushes and clasps - parts 1 ANTIROLL BAR, 2 MOUNTINGS & 2 CLIPS. The work was done at a main dealer - so I had hoped they would have managed to elimiate the noise that I asked them to.

It seams to me like there is some kind of tension going on - maybe drive shaft?

Location of the noise is difficult - it certainly isn't the exhaust and I don't seem to have any more engine movement that before the noise started. The sound possibly could be coming from under the driver/passenger seats - but it is reallt difficult to tell when the car's moving.
