As you may have read in the post about the clicking noise behind the glove box, I too have had problems with my heating system... I compared my car against another passat and found that not only was I suffering from the clicking noise but the fan wasn't working at all.

So I ordered a new fan (ebay, not VW) and yesterday I went to fit it, removed the glove box and... fan wasn't connected... Refitted the connector and wahey, fan works!

It would appear that when the Nokia hands free kit was fitted, the bundle of excesse wires rested on the fan wire and over time pulled it out...

Still got the valve thing to replace. but at least I can see when I drive now!

    Cheers, Bryce

    Hi Emily,
With regards to your temp light problem it may be an intermittent problem with the coolant temperature sender unit. If the water is brown I would recommend putting a flush agent in there as it sounds as if there is a large amount of rust in there and this could damage the seals on the water pump.

For your climate control I would also look at the relays to see if one of them has burned itself out. You may be able to use another as a quick test to see if it is. If you do a search on the web you will find several companies who actually specialize in making bushes for the blower motor - apparently they are better than the originals.

    Hope this helps,
    David.

just out of intrest the fusible resitor, tiny thin cylinder on the heater resistor body(green block) can be bought for £1 at any tv repair shop.it's a fusible resistor and used in microwaves etc and just needs to be soldered in place like the origional.take the origional to the shop for them to see the resistor value(the replacement resistor is identical and the same as the factory origional)
