the button which u press (by the number plate) sticks sometimes, so if u push by the back of the switch then use it as normal, can be a niggly one and a pain but there we go

Many thanks as you said it is sticking and only one side will work, will need to stripe down and clean it.

My boot has the same problem.I took off the inner card and put some spray on copper grease on mine ,but although it seems better ,you still need to ensure that the double handle has returned fully to its rest position ,giving it a push back down all the way and it also helps to put your other hand on the top and outside of the boot and apply pressure at the same time as opening ! Perhaps a lighter oil or WD40 might work better i,m not sure?

wd40 or mech oil works better than copper grease as wd and mech oil are able to clean, copper grease allows debris to stick, the main objective is to allow the pin which the button operates is clean and lubricated, in worse case, and have time to spend, remove the assembly and clean properly, although a squirt and work in should be sufficient

You were dead right, years of dirt after a good stripe down and clean all now working fine did take a bit of time as not the quickest job I've ever done.
    Thanks again for you advice
