    Hi.

On my 99 Passat Syncro 1.9TDI (110 hp) the dieselpump has stopped. Im thinking of the pump located in the diesel tank. I measure +12V on the connector under the back seat when i try to start the car. But it wont start.

My question is: Can i use a pump from a 2000¨Passat 1.9TDI with 115 hp? Is it the same pump, will it fit?

AFN/AVG ... im not quite sure about that. It is a non PD engine, thats right.
I dont know what engine the 115hp car has, only that it is a 1.9TDI.

I compared my car with my friends car, a 2002 1.9TDI 130 PD engine. The connector under the seat looked similiar. And i measured the same voltage at the same pin.

Your freinds car has the PD engine with the intank lift pump fitted. Yours is different, and the mechanical pump does all the work, sucking the fuel from the tank etc...

So no a 115bhp pump will not make any difference or make your car start.

Are you sure about that? My dealer told me there is a electrical pump in the tank. And that there where differences between FWD and 4WD cars. Dont know if thats true. Autodata also tells me there is a electrical pump fitted in the tank

Don't see how 4 and 2 wheel drive would matter!

If your car has an injector pump under the bonnet, This does the work of drawing fuel up to the pump.

I may well be wrong, I honestly could not comment on what the dealers have said.

    Crasher is this true!

Thats what the dealer told me in the beginning. He didnt know there was a pump in the tank. But when he checked it out he found out there was a electrical pump fitted in the tank. That means there are two pumps. The one in the tank, and the injector pump under the bonnet.

If this is true! Try Gravity feeding the injector pump with diesel.

Useing a funnel and some pipeing connected to the fuel intake on the pump.

The injector pump has a impeller inside of it this pressurises the fuel enough to open the injector nozzles it does not have the suction to draw its own fuel from the tank. The easiest way to check if your pump has gone is to disconnect the fuel inlet from your fuel filter and turn the ignition on if fuel pumps out everywhere its not the pump if not it is,dont know if the 2 pumps are interchangable
