The fault code has no relation to boost pressure.

On a TDI it means the car cannot adjust the fuel injection timing properly.

The main cause would be incorrect static fuel pump timing, followed by 'injector 3'/needle lift sensor or a problem with its connector, or a 'start of injection' N108 pump problem.

Dirt or air in the fuel lines could also cause this fault code.

If injector 3 'G80' is not working correctly you will enter reduced fueling, no boost 'emergency running' / 'limp mode'.

The 'start of injection' is calculated by using the time difference between injector 3 'G80' and the engine speed sensor 'G28', and comparing this to an ECU map. Including measurements from the coolant temp sensor 'G62' allows the ECU to calculate the correct fuel mass, and regulate the start of injection valve N108 on the pump.

I would check the connector and wiring on injector 3 first.

Also ensure your fuel filter is not prehistoric.

You can check the pump timing with vagcom.
