Hi It means as it says the probem is related to the speed of the car and not the engine.Lets say your engine speed is 3500revs and you are in 5th gear and the ABS control lamp is activated. If the fault was connected to the speed of your engine then the lamp would be activated in all the gears at 3500 revs. The ABS wheel sensors transmit signals to the ABS control unit if there is for some reason a variation in the signals from the 4 sensors, the lamp will be activated. You need to measure the signals from the sensors to see what is happening.

    Hello Everybody,

I'm a longtime lurker on this site and have not untl now needed to ask anybody anything as I have always found what I have been looking for via seraches, but reading the above clearly describes a problem I have just noticed on my 1998 A4.
Now, for the most part, and for about the last 2 years, I have done very little high speed driving(unlike the previous 6 years when the car was always up to and operating at motorway speeds fo a good % of the time).
So, it spends all of its time now (poor thing) creeping around town with occasional blasts up to 50-60mph.
Quite recently, I did a few longer (faster) runs and noticed that the ABS light illuminated about half way into this journey. Just as in the above postings, it went out when I switched off and re-started the car. Now once again poodling around time all is fine ie no light.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this and what is required to fix?

    Mnay thanks

    Jaba
