My neighbours chimney pot worked loose with the earthquake and the high winds and quite a bit of masonary has hit my immaculate passat.

Are the main VW dealers the daddy at re-spray jobs, or are the independants as good if not better than main dealers, any input would be greatly appreciated.

ps will there house insurance pay for my repairs, it will be quite a big claim ?

you should be able to claim on their insurance, i'd get several quotes 1st. I wouldn't do anything till you have heard what the insurance company wants to do, however this may be impractical and inconvenient for you.

Take many photograpgh the damage, masonary and chimney.

As far as I'm aware main dealers don't do anthing bodywork related and even if they did just imagine what they'd charge! Consult some local bodywork repair shops, they should give you some free estimates. Also try 'chipsaway' they are nationwide, not necesarily the cheapest but they will give you a free quote and you may get an idea of what it'll cost. Definately get a handfull of quotes before you part with any cash! Bodywork repairs can cost scandelous amounts of money!

Just out of interest, what is the damage?

Richard Alexander Huddersfield also has a body shop on site, although the Halifax dealer (don`t go near under any circumstances!!!!!) just sub it out to an independant.

Lucky it was not your chimney pot, same happened to my Civic, car insurance said the house insurance should pay, house insurance said car insurance should pay, builder who repaired the roof said f*** em I'll put a big quote in and the change will pay for the car, keep the no-claims up.

Damage nearside wing and door , been to a specialist spray shop today.

They tell me its no problem to put it back to its normal finish, crease in panels will easy beat out and then into the low bake oven for a good cook with laquer finish, seem to know there onions.
