    Good morning All,

After months of filling the car up with coolant as and when it needed it up and till about 4 weeks ago when the overheating hit the extreme point.
Found out that the cylinder number 2 on the head gasket was slightly out, got that changed along with water pump (which was ok - but got it changed at the same time).

However after a few days after this episode the car developed the loss of water symptom again, no leaks on the out side, a slight cream layer and heavy condensation in the rocker cover, heavy blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. Head gasket test came back ok so I took the courage replaced the oil cooler. Car is now ok, driven about 200 miles and no loss of water but the car is losing oil some where!

God knows what is wrong with it now........any one want to buy the car off me?

    Kind regards,

    Chalkmyster

There is the possibility then that it is the head gasket.

what the other people are saying is correct but what no one has asked you yet even though you have had pressure test and replaced most parts but one that gives exactly the same problem as head gasket & overheating worries is your oil cooler especially with your oil presure rising as well ...if in dought go & get a die test done on cooling system its about £10 for die with no labour charge as they pour it and leave it running about half an hour the die comes out of any leak anywhere in cooling system as they use uv light & it shows....but i agree with the majority most probable gasket as they fail been there £400 less for the lot seals an all...pay the tenner first might be lucky easier if its cooler & you can bypass it to test as well...good luck..

    Good afternoon all,

The head gasket has been changed, water pump and oil cooler. The bill has now reached the sum of over £1000.00 and the engine is now losing oil . A dye test was done and the head is ok. My only theory in this is that the head could have a very very small crack in it, which is not showing up in the test.

how long since head was done...iv had a hair line crack in my head before on previous car showed up on die test... take it for second opinion get another die test done as id be a little suspect may be you might find they might not have torqued bolts in and may have overtightened prime cause of hair line crack.... also have you been back to have them re torqued as cant remember miles exactly but have to go back to be re tightned...

PD heads do not require re-tightening, the VW quote is,

“Cylinder head bolts do not have to be torqued down again later after repair work”

I gave the wrong engine code though, it should be ANU.

Is there oil in the coolant?

    Does it smoke exceesively?

    Good afternoon all,

When the car went in for the head gasket change the garage informed me that the head bolts were lose. The head gasket has only done 400 odd so miles (in 6 weeks) since it was replaced.

It has stopped smoking excessively since the oil cooler was replaced (4 days ago and 100 miles) and the water level has stayed the same.

Does anyone know how I can get a serviced record/history of the vehicle print out as the local VW garage are very reluctant to give me a copy and feel that they are hiding something from me?

    Kind regards,

    Good morning All,

I brought the car from the VW over a year ago (15 months) which it came with a 1 years warranty. It also came with the service history stamped book, but no other invoices etc. During the year of owning the vehicle the car visited VW on numerious occassions with various faults, one being overheating and lossing water. On them checking the car they said they could not find any thing wrong. I'm just wondering if they are hidding something like a front end crash?

    Kind regards,

    Chalky
