Sharan Vehicle Speed Sensor

Hi, I have a Sharan 1.9 TDi 110 BHP Automatic, 1998 vintage.

The problem is the speedo and trip meter have stopped working. I seriously suspect the vehicle speed sender on the back of the gearbox near to the right hand drive shaft.

I asked a local dealer but he gave me a bogus part number reference so now I need the correct part number, but I can't find one on the sender itself.

The sender sits on a tube and is circular with a hex shape and a 3 pin connector on the top, locked into place by a roll pin.

Anyone any idea what the part number is please, its a bit dodgy with all these speed cameras about!

For all automatic Sharans (except with the AJH engine after chassis wvwzzz7MzXV060000) the part number is 357 919 149 and costs £20.90 inc. VAT. The sensor fits a huge range of automatic VAG cars from 1988 to 2004.
