This is my first post on the forum so apologies if its in the wrong section or a duplicate of another similar request! I've searched but couldn't find the same topic so hopefully someone out there can give me some advice!

I have a 2003 Passat 2.0 SE and have been having problems with the emissions warning light since Christmas now. I've had the fault code read, which showed it was a coolant temparature sensor which needed to be replaced.

I've had the coolant sensor replaced and the code cleared, but its come back (after two weeks).

The issue isn't just the warning light (which is on permanently, not flashing), my cooling fan is permanently on (making my car sound like a jet engine!). Plus my fuel consumption has increased.

Can anyone suggest what I should do next and what the likely problem is as I don't want to take it into VW and get a massive bill!

When I had the coolant sensor replaced it did stop the fan from coming on all the time.

    Thanks in advance

I'd take it back to whoever replaced the sensor and get them to check it again.

It sounds like the sensor is faulty. Was it replaced with a genuine part? Also just check your water level I know it sounds stupid but you never know.
