    Well..

    Where do i start...

Today "our" local Council thought it would be a great idea to do a survey on the MAIN road out of the town to the M62 Motorway THIS MORNING at PEAK hour!!!

Take a read of the below and say your thoughts regarding this and does your council decide to do things like this?..

Our council is a bunch of mindless people who make some of the worse decisions ever thought of...

It loaded after a couple of re-tries.

I could nominate the Mersey Tunnels for a similar award for what they did a few years back...

There are two Mersey Tunnels: The Birkenhead tunnel is the oldest and it one tube with four lanes. It's quite twisty and if they do any work on the tunnel they close it completely.
The Wallasey Tunnel is a newer one and is two tubes with two lanes in each. If they need to do some work, they close a tube and make the traffic two way through the other tube. This is standard procedure at night and sometimes during the day.

A few years back it was the annual Chester to Liverpool bike ride. They usually close one of the tubes in the Wallasey tunnel and have it as bike traffic only. No problems there, it slows things down but it's well advertised the the waits aren't a big problem at weekends.

Except they decided to close the Birkenhead tunnel completely for maintenance.

This meant that instead of being the usual four lanes going in one direction, there was one.
    It was chaos.
Words escape me as to how no one thought this would be okay, but don't get me started on the MiseryTravel and their management of the tunnels....

    That's councils for you.

At the moment our council has decided major roadworks need doing on the main road into town, whilst British Rail (or whatever they call themselves these days) are carrying out major repair work to a railway bridge, thus closing the road and creating diversions for diversions for the next 10 weeks. Surely the council could intervene to make sure work was staggered, or work at night to speed things up....

Now is peak time for all road works nightmares based on my theory which is.....

Budgets tightly controlled for 10 months of the year.

In last two months whatever is in the pot must be spent to ensure getting the required budget next year.

Result - February and March mayhem on the roads as money gets spent before the new budget year in April.

As you can guess... i was not best pleased....

Just be glad you don't live in Southampton, I am convinced the council there has a secret agenda to reduce traffic average speeds to as low as possible.
Nobody can do what they do and be a victim of circumstances or 'bad luck'
We currently have major lane widening on the M27 which is to last 15 months in tandem with three other sets of roadworks all going on at the same time on major roads into the city, great planning eh?...I think not
Last week we had a major gas leak on a road into Southampton, the only one unaffected by road works for the EIGHTH time in 15 months and huge tailbacks yet again.
    see this:
    http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/search/di...s_are_over.php
They have traffic calmed 3/4 of the city's roads mostly making radiused corners sharp so that your vision into the road in which you are turning is impaired and if your car is long, forcing you almost across to the opposite side of the road to get round the corner.
They have reduced a three lane highway into one 3 metre wide lane surrounded by 150 sq metres of deserted pavement which was previously road and into which all the traffic must squeeze which causing absolute gridlock nearly every day.
It can sometimes take 45 minutes to travel 2 miles especially on Football days.
They have just approved an IKEA there which will add a further 5000 cars to the mix despite a perfectly good out of town site adjacent to the M27 being available.
Add to that increased parking charges with extended hours and wardens with attitudes similar to that of Pol Pot and you have a unique visitor experience.
There used to be a small run in lane at the end of a road into which drivers would go after immediately emerging from a lane adjacent to a bus lane, this gave the drivers enough time to drop in as soon as the bus lane ended avoiding going across the lane at the last minute.
The council noticed this and have now extended the bus lane to within 10 metres of the junction forcing drivers to jump across at the last minute, those who drop in too early to avoid a sharp turn are ticketed by the circling wardens... just tell me, how is that serving the public and HOW DOES THAT HELP??????
