    Hey guys,

Picked my Avant t sport up last week and drove 400 miles to find the clutch starting to slip. Great fun!!

Anyway got a LUK clutch kit from gsf for £96 pus vat and had a busy day fitting it. Wont do another in a hurry but glad its done. It had burned right down to the rivets in the pressure plate side ( And the Dual mass flywheel seemed in good condition).

BUT as I was having a nosey around I noticed the timing belt was very badly cracked. Weird, the history shows it isn;t due a another belt for 10k. Very glad I checked it and changed it. Once the bumper is off its a very easy job. I managed to do it without dropping the coolant too!

Anyway I was too busy to take pics but if anyone wants any info on what I did feel free to reply. Also next time the bonnets up peer behind the timing belt cover and get a look at that timing belt!! Ill look abit harder next time I buy a car!

    Lol

Yes, bumper and front panel had to come forward. I cheekily left the rad connected and still had plenty of space..

Hey thanks for this post. I just had my engine replaced today and they are going to do the timing belt now that it is back in. the front is off, so I think they are about ready to go. When you say it was quick to do, how quick was it, as I would love to get the car back tomorrow if possible. Can you fit any timing belt to these engines or is there a "special", audi one. My car is a 1.9tdi.

If they charge more than an hour then they are robbing you. MAKE SURE THEY REPLACE THE TENSIONER TOO! The kit I first got didn;t have a tensioner, just a pulley. ITS IMPERATIVE THEY REPLACE THE TENSIONER!

ok and does the waterpump need to be replaced as well? So how long does it take to put the front back on, also I wonder if you know how long it should take to replace, ball joint, anti roll bar links, track rod arm, track rod end, cv boot one passenger side?

Yes, the waterpump needs replacing. Audi gave me some money back if I returned to the old one. However, my A6's front would not move forward, so I did take the bumper etc off. You can run a search on the forum and search for "my A6 timing belt experience" and you'll see what I had to do.
