Hi everyone, I am a newbie and need advice. I have recently purchased a 1.6 VW Polo 1996 LH drive (I live in Spain) with only 43,000kms. (genuine kms) on the clock. Owner moved to South Africa 18 months ago and the car has been garaged at an airport carpark. It passed its MOT but today driving on the motorway, the gear lever kept spasmodically jumping out of 5th gear, I do not think it is the clutch or gearbox, but the actual gear stick pulls nearly out of its casing. Has anyone had this problem. The car up till today drives like a new car and is immaculate. Any advice greatlfully received.
    Cheers Pauline.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem like you with my car. I have a Polo from 2003 and it has only 32000miles. I was on the motorway when this happened to me, too. Can I ask you what did you do? Please help me!!!!What's the spare part that I need to buy and replace? Thanks so much.

    Hi,

I took my VW Polo to the local garage, and it was simply a loose clutch cable, its worth checking yours.

    Cheers Pauline.

Thanks so much for your quick answer. It's really annoying as sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I might sell it even though I love it, as it's my 1st car. I have been to a VW garage and they told it's the way teh car has been driven and maybe the cluch wasn't pushed down properly, but husband said that's a BIG lie. Another mechanic advice me to keep on driving the car as it might work again-it did for a week only, then again the same problem for 2 days and again working. I'm sure something's wrong and one day i would have to pay to be repaired. thanks again, anca
