I've had both in Bora Sport form and there's nothing to choose between them spec wise. Golfs are quite a bit different in GT format though I believe.

150 is definitely quicker, but the 130 suffers less lag on pick up. Economy is similar (i think 150 is actually better at motorway speeds), but as Crasher points out, for some reason, the ARL eats cams/follows and the turbo's are less reliable.

Mind you, my 130 has just cost me a flaming fortune, but mostly wear and tear items such as clutch, bushes etc.

I prefer the 130 to drive, but that's just my opinion, go and test drive both - you'll buy a 150 because you won't be able to resist the extra grunt!

Wow. Not much in the the difference so. Being only 21 and lving in Ireland, I think il have to settle for the 130 lump (for crazy insurance premium reasons). So purchased a 2003. 56K on the clock. One little problem, bringing it past 3500rpm, the turbo stops operating ()until i switch off the ignition and back on again. not cool when pulling away from the lights. any ideas?? im thinking maybe an electrical connection.

probably a hole in the turbo pipe mine rubbed against the drive shaft..

It was the pipe leadin to the bottom of the vnt.. it runs up/down the back of the engine next to a big black pipe and the only one that goes down the back(drivers side) i traced it back to a join and took it off and sucked it did not hold pressure so easy diagnosis for me.

A fault code read will give you code, 17965 over boost error, which will be sooted up and sticking turbo vanes, probably the reason it was sold.
