How easy is it to replace the front and rear speakers on my Passat? I have 2 blown speakers that need replacing. Just wondered if anybody has any advice before I start.

I would say that it is fairly easy. What you need to do is remove door cards. Then get rid of old speakers by drilling trough bolts. To fit new speakers you will need speaker fitting adapter (around 12 pounds but sometimes they are included with better speakers kits) and speaker cable adapter (that is only needed if you dont want mess around with cables) Whole operation should not take you more than 2 hours

Please let us know how it goes, nobody else who has done this seemed to report back. I was thinking of http://www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk/sho...ZproductJJ1349 as they are recommended by Pioneer for our cars.

Will do. I took off the door card last night and it doesn't look too bad

I got myself some http://www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk/sho...7cm--6.5-inch/ as I have an Alpine CDE 9850Ri headunit, which is probably the cause of the blown speakers (and I am a bit deaf ).

I have just replaced all 4 speakers and all went ok.

    Removed all 4 door cards:

Drivers Door: Removed the 2 screws from the bottom of the door. Removed the electric window panel, unplugged the panel. Removed the 3 srews now visible. Took the bottom of the door card, pulled out until all the clips seemed to have been unpopped then pulled up. Unclipped the Flashing LED light from the lock. Removed the metal and plastic clips from the door handle. Unclipped the electric mirror clip and finally the light clip from the bottom of the door. Door card is free.

Passenger Door: Only difference was to remove the door pull cover and take out the 2 srews.

Rear Doors: Only has one srew at the bottom of the door and needs the tweeter connector removing.

Once the door cards were off I drilled out the 4 rivets from the speaker pod on each door. The speaker pod then came off. I then attached the speaker adapter
http://www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk/sho...es/Volkswagon/ which just srews on in place off the old pod (all srews are included). Make sure the adapter is up the correct way so the channel for the speaker wires is able to reach the connector. Then I attached the wiring adapter from the kit to speaker and then to the connector. I they put the wires in the channel and screwed on the new speaker. Made sure the speaker was working. I then removed the plastic and rubber spacer from the door card. If you don't, the spacer will push against the adapter and the door card will not fit. I then put the door card back on after putting all the connectors back on. Got in the car shut the door and made sure all was working. Then srewed everything back on and all was done.

Job took about 2 and half hours. Speakers all sound good.

Hope this helps anybody who is going to try this in future.

What new speakers did you get? also what size and what size was the ones in the door stock? also if tey are aftermarket or better did you notice a differance in sound quality? mine has the premium 3 system in it but it seems like i dont have alot of bass. im adding subs eventually anyways but i have 4 brand new memphis audio speakers sitting on shelf they are 6.n inch though so i was just wondering if it was worth the swap. one last question do you know if they were 3 way or just mid and low drivers? im kind of an audio guy so id like to know the important stuff.

I got these speakers http://www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk/sho...7cm--6.5-inch/ and the stock ones are 17cm, I think. I have noticed an improvement from the new speakers and they provide me with plenty of bass and quality. (Enough to make the wing mirrors move!! ). I don't think the speakers I removed were 3 ways, but I could be wrong.
