I have a 2003 A3 2.0 fsi with a K&N induction kit on. The car has thrown up the engine management light a few times now and my dealer has replaced the EGR valve and the spark plugs under warranty. I was told the plugs were black with soot and that it was due to the induction kit causing over fueling. Is this true and am i going to have problems with sensors every time i do something to the engine??? My plans are the induction kit,a full exhaust system with sports cats ans a re-map once there both on and working.

    Cheers

    Mike

Take the induction kit off and put the standard air-box back on ASAP but with an up-rated non-oiled panel filter in such as Green or Pipercross.

Induction kits are literally useless on anything other than a track-car being used at high speeds sucking up clean cold air. You will be risking damaging various bits of your engine because it will be used in stop-start town driving in dirty air and because of its location will be sucking up hot air from under the bonnet rather than cold air directly from the front of the grill.

Many garages have told me VW/Audi air-boxes are good for near on 600bhp (point made with the new RS6 I suppose) and truthfully so are the standard paper filters, but a non-oiled Pipercross wont hurt and will free up a couple of bhp.

And sorry to say K&N are probably the worse of the kits as they use oiled filters.

Get a Pipercross Viper Induction kit as they have a carbon fibre heat shield to reduce 'heat soak' and also have a cold air flow pipe that goes directly by front grille

Or as advised put the standard air-box back on and don’t risk any harm to the engine or MAF or it sucking up water etc etc

There is no logical reason to induction kits on normal cars other than to sell in Demon Tweaks catalogues and there is a reason why Audi/VW have spent good money designing the air-boxes to be as they are.

As mentioned induction kits are good for track cars on the track.

I had a Carbonio carbon fibre kit on a seriously tuned GTI 1.8T, Carbonio are meant to be the best and it actually lost power and sounded like an atmospheric dump-valve.

The money would be better off spent elsewhere.
