    Hi,

I'm having trouble fitting my new stereo in my Golf. When I bought the car (last week) the original radio/cassette (Blaupunkt) was still in it. I had to cut off the wires and fit the new plugs which was not the problem. The problem started when sliding the new stereo in the radio slot. It does not fit depth wise . It is sticking out by about 5cm. Has anyone had the same problem before or does anyone know on how to modify the car so the stereo will fit?

    Many thanks!!!

    im confused...

why did you cut any wires? harness adapters are available for aroudn £10/15....

why it's sticking out by 5 cm, im unusure, have you made sure any wires at the back are tucked down properly?

i have also read around that some of the foam insulation at the back can prevent the head unit from sitting in properly, you may want to cut it away a little bit to accomodate it.

To Eshrules: Thanks for your reply. I figured it out after taking the glove compartment out I was able to see behind the radio. You are correct. The wires were not all tucked down. One of the wires was blocking the hole where the rubber mount was meant to slot in.

In regards to cutting the wires.....This seem to be a very old system. The speaker cables had individual connections sitting in seperate places on the back of the stereo. I don't know if they have convertors for those. With my new stereo I received the universal plugs that fit in the back of the stereo with loose wires sticking out. I could just cable the whole lot up that way.

    Thanks again!
