Difference between the 140 and 170 TDI?

What's the difference (apart from the power of course!) between the 140 and 170 GT sport golf?

Reason is I wanted a 170 but I've seen a 140 at a good price and am tempted... but is it possible to uprate the 140? Is it just a different chip/map?

You could have it remapped or chipped, just don't forget to tell the devil (oops) insurance company though, otherwise you could find yourself uncovered if there an accident!

The thing to look at is the depreciation figures, I think you'll find that the 140 has slightly better ones than those of the 170.

Had my 140 (136bhp) remapped. Got 191bhp now.

Would you see similar gain remapping a 170 though?

The 170 after a remap will be about 210-215. As standard it's probably between 180-190 anyway.

The 170 does not produce ANY black smoke on acceleration unlike the 140 or any non-DPF'd TDi.

The 170 cosmetically is only different at the rear - Straight Twin Chrome exhausts instead of std turned down ones.

Oil is another thing that will be different on the 170 - it has to use 507.00 at £13-15 a litre.

Just diamond black paintwork and central armrest with iPod thingy.

There was one this spec 'in port' hence the rapid delivery. And because it didn't have the free leather that they're currently offering on new builds, I managed to get the equivalent knocked off the price (I didn't want leather anyhow, had it before and its cold in winter and sticky in summer!).
