mk3 vento blower stopped working

vento forum seems uber quiet so thought id ask in here as it's essentially a golf mk3 blower has suddenly stopped blowing. changed to new fuses but still nowt. was meant to be driving to swansea tomorrow night so need to have the ability to de-mist and keep warm. im not too car-minded but with the right info prepared to have a go at fixing this, but no idea where to start. any tips greatly appreciated! mark

same thing happened to me in my Golf, it just died one day..Mechanic replaced a small black box i cant really remember what it was called but it cost about 50 euros at the time so in the uk it would probably cost about 20 quid or even cheaper in a scrappy.its very easy to replace

well, managed to get a multimeter and test the connections. was getting power through to the blower and it seems like the bearings have gone, or are very close to going. trying to spin the fan was hard and the low fan speeds weren't enough to fire it up. decided the best course of action was to turn everything off and leave the fan on 3 so that when i start the ignition, there's a little more oomph to get the fan spinning.

new blower seems to be 20-25 and it's a job i can do myself, even with my limited car skills!
