Stalling 1.8 automatic???

Hi all, I`m a newbie to this forum so go gentle lol,

I have a problem, with my 1.8 cl automatic 1994 golf, the problem I have is intermitent stalling (mainly when cold, and very bad hessitation when accelerating, and servere lack of power,

I have had a good look round and have found several problems that I have now fixed but the faults still occur, a friend has a diagnostic machine he put on the car but no fault codes came up so it didnt point me in any dirrection,

If some could give me a few pointers it would be much appreciated.

Could an air leak/problem with the air:fuel ratio. Im not a mechanic so not 100% sure though.
