    Hi,

Can someone clarify a few things for me. Ive recently purchased a HEX-USB-CAN cable off ebay so that I could have a play around with VAG COM before purchasing the whole shebang. It shipped with a cd containing VAG-COM version 60x or something along those lines but ive read on the Ross Tech website you can only use shareware mode on versions prior to 50x releases. Is this the case? Ive installed version 409 but there is no usb option but have managed to get it to register using COM3 however I havent plugged it into the car yet to see if it actually reads the modules.

Any help would be appreciated im desperate to have a look for any errors as my cars playing up and the warranty is due to run out. Its a MK5 Golf 2.0 FSI.

    Thanks in advance

Cant help with the fleabay lead or the copied cd they have sent you.
I had a nightmare with my first lead and decided to pay for the full hit and its been great ever since.
My advise is to buy from registered ross tech distributors ie gendan (uk based) or direct from rosstech.
    Hope you sort it out.

My 3rd party interface installed a usb-to-serial driver and so do I connect using a COM port, not the USB one. Also, definitely try installing it without using the supplied cd (just install the official VAGCOM 409 from Ross-Tech). The cd supplied with my lead caused problems and in the end I wiped all the drivers, reinstalled without the CD and all was fine.

If you rlead has been advertised as a Hex-Can-Usb and has shipped with version 604 then it sounds like its one of the copies of the later Ross Tech leads.
Try installing version 604 of Vag-Com then connecting the lead following the instructions on the Ross Tech website.

I'm with A8 Tech on this though, the cheap cables are cheap for a reason and a genuine cable is expensive for a reason. you get what you pay for, and buying a genuine cable is quite satisfying. Especially when you know it is going to work each and every time!!

Congratulations, you've bought a seemingly illegal item.

I'd report the seller to ebay and request a refund.
