poor mpg on A6 tdi

hi my a6 tdi has quite low mpg, it is a 115BHP AAT 5 cyl engine it had new injector nozzles fitted 2k ago, they we're pop tested and aok. as it was returning around 35 MPG the new nozzles have taken this to around 37-38 MPG, this car is mainly motorway use it is a 6 speed and i cruse at around 80 ish know smoke, it starts fine, tick over is a little chuggy/lumpy but otherwise runs and drives very well and very tourquie high miles but this shouldn't affect things to much should it?

unplug the MAF (mounted above left hand wing)you'll see an obvious plug going to it.Pull this off and go for a drive.If its no worse,or actually better,theres your problem.

hi there is no maf as such on these tdi's it the older style metal box with a flap, been told if these go wrong you know about it.

Really? oh,well its got to be worth a try as its easy to reach,eh?

Reading on some google searches they claim the tdi fuel pump moves out of spec very offten, don't know what this means as timing is fine on vag com, starts fine drives fine, tick over lumpy/chuggs like its down a cylinder but runs fine.

i have disconnected the air mass meter and the cars just the same as with it on, it has lost a little edge i think but is very quick still loads of tourque and revs clean to the red line, now this isn't a plastic maf unit as on most tdi's it is a metal/plastic unit very much like the golf mk2 digifant air box, vw don't do an exchange system for them they are £232 inc vat, how can i test it, or get it reconded??
